Reflection: In our fiercely independent culture, "freedom" comes with a laundry list of expectations. It means we can do what we want, when we want. If something makes us unhappy, we can change it - move, quit, start over. What does freedom look like if we strip it of its exterior trappings? If we didn't need to keep up with the Joneses - financially, socially, spiritually - what would we do differently? The truth can be uncomfortable and difficult, at least if we're honest about it. Only Jesus can give us freedom with a truth that can't be bought and sold. The truth must be earned the hard way.

Meditation: Is there one thing you can change that would bring you one step closer to the kind f truth that Jesus offers? Look at your life, your truth - have you created a "freedom" that hold you down or one that lifts you up?

Prayer: Jesus, you are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Help us to keep our hearts and minds focused on that promise when the world tries to convince us there is a better way.

Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly angels, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
